Andrei Volkov


Violin

Andrei Volkov was born in Saransk (Republic of Mordovia). 

In 1987 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music). He had studied in the class of Prof. M. Fichtenholz, People’s Artist of the RSFSR, and in 1985, he had got transferred to the class of Prof. V. Rabei.

From 1987 to 1999, he worked as a concertmaster of the orchestra of the State Musical Theater named after I.M. Yaushev. He performed as a member of the “Divertissement” ancient music ensemble, and at the same time he was a soloist of the Saransk State Philharmonic.

Andrei Volkov was a member of the first violin group at the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia conducted by V. Dudarova, People’s Artist of the USSR (1999), the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov” (2000), and the Orchestra of the Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre (2001–2003).

From 2003 to 2014, he occupied the position of concertmaster for second violinists at the Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre.

Andrei Volkov has performed under the baton of such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Alexander Vedernikov, Mikhail Pletnev, Saulius Sondeckis, Thomas Sanderling, Eri Klas, and Teodor Currentzis.

Since 2015, he has been assistant concertmaster for second violinists of the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. Since 2016, he has been assistant concertmaster for second violinists of the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage.
