Alexander Zinger was born in Rostov-on-Don. From 1998 till 2002, he studied at the Rachmaninoff Rostov State Conservatory, and in 2007, he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. He has performed with Rostov jazz orchestras: the Big Band of the Rostov Conservatory conducted by Pyotr Nazaretov, the Big Band led by Viktor Budarin and the Kim Nazaretov Big Band under the direction of Yury Kinus. Since 2002, he has collaborated with Marimba Plus band and Arkady Shilkloper.
In 2001, he founded the ensemble Kind of Trio, which successfully performed at DoJ #2002 International Jazz Competition-Festival in Donetsk a year after. There, Alexander was awarded a diploma as the best drummer. In 2003, he was a diploma recipient at Unity International Jazz Festival in Kyiv. In 2007, he became the First Prize winner at the International Competition of Young Jazz Performers in Rostov-on-Don.
Alexander Zinger has participated in Jazzia festival in Astana (now Nur-Sultan), Jazz in the Moscow Hermitage Garden and Russian Stars of World Jazz festivals in Moscow, Jazz à Montauban festival in France, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow (State of Idaho), the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, the Baku International Jazz Festival, such Russian festivals as Crescendo, Stars on Baikal, Stars of the White Nights, and Usadba Jazz.
Alexander Zinger has appeared at the State Kremlin Palace, the Bolshoi Theatre and the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, the Moscow’s House of Music, the Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Wiener Musikverein, Dzintari Concert Hall in Jūrmala, the Oktyabrskiy Big Concert Hall in St Petersburg.
He has performed with Deborah Brown, George Garzone, Frank Lacy, Gregory Porter, Jimmy Owens, David Sánchez, Roy Hargrove, Alex Sipiagin, John Grant, Yevgeni Grishkovetz, Valeriy Syutkin, Isfar Sarabski, Vadim Eilenkrig, the Polish-Russian jazz band New Trio, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov”, the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra and many other famous performers and ensembles; he has been a member of such bands as Snegopady, Cheboza, Laertsky Band, and 19:84.
Today, he is a permanent member of The Bolshoi Jazz Orchestra and the Obe Dve band. He also performs with Maria Teriaeva, who plays the modular synthesizer (the Maria Teriaeva x Alex Zinger duet), and as part of a trio with pianist Denis Matsuev and double-bass player Andrei Ivanov. He collaborates with Zildjian, Evans, Pro Mark and BAG&music companies.
