Alexey Melnikov was born in Moscow. In 1996 he entered the Gnesin High Specialized Music School
(class of Tatiana Shklovskaya). While he was a student, he took part in many various competitions, including the International Carl Czerny Piano Competition in Prague (2nd Prize). In 2008–2013 studied at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory with Professor Sergey Dorensky and his assistants: Nikolay Lugansky, Pavel Nersesyan and Andrey Pisarev.
Prize-winner at the International Competition in the memory of Vera Lotar-Shevchenko in Novosibirsk (1st Prize), the International Piano Competition in Cantu (1st Prize, Italy), the International Piano Competition in San-Marino (1st Prize, the Audience Choice Prize, the Critics Choice and the Orchestra Choice Prizes, 2014) and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (3rd Prize, 2015, Japan).
Alexey Melnikov has performed with the Orchestras of the Belgorod State Philharmonic Hall and the Tomsk Regional State Philharmonic Hall, the Chamber Orchestra of the Novgorod Regional Philharmonic Hall, the Virtuosi di Praga Chamber Orchestra, the Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, the San-Marino Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Has given piano recitals in Russia, Germany, Italy, France and Japan. Has performed in the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Performing Arts Centre, Žofín Palace in Prague, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
He has taken part in the International Cervo Chamber Music Festival (Italy), the Animato Festival in Paris, the International Piano Music Festival in Trieste, the Heinrich Neuhaus Romantic Music Festival in Moscow.
