Regarded as one of the most promising young conductors of today, Min Chung was born in Saarbrücken, Germany and moved to France at a young age where he started his musical studies with double bass and piano. After relocating to Seoul, Korea, he attended Seoul National University majoring in German Literature and violin.
He made his conducting debut in 2007 with Aloysius Symphony Orchestra (formerly known as the Boystown Symphony Orchestra), an orchestra based in Busan, Korea that is mainly composed of children of disadvantaged background and orphans. His collaboration with the orchestra culminated in unprecedented and triumphant performances at Carnegie Hall in 2010, and Suntory Hall in 2012. Since then he has continued extensive touring with the orchestra both in Korea and abroad, and has effectively established the orchestra as one of the finest youth orchestras in the country.
While continuing his collaboration with this orchestra, Min Chung has since gone on to embark on a budding international career.
Recent symphonic engagements in Japan include concerts with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, Chiba Youth Orchestra, Senzoku Gakuen Orchestra, and the ACROS Fukuoka Youth Orchestra. In Korea he has been working extensively with the Ditto Festival orchestra while serving as their principle conductor, and with the MBC Orchestra in Daegu.
Notable operatic activities include full productions of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the Korean National Opera. In 2013 he made a highly successful European debut in Lecce, Italy with Verdi’s La Traviata which lead to an immediate re-invitation for Don Carlo the following season. He conducted this same opera with the Korea National Opera in 2014.
