Andrey Ivanov

Andrey Ivanov was born in Minsk in 1981. He graduated from the Choral Conducting Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music in Minsk in 2004, and from the Orchestral Conducting Department of the Academy in 2008. In 2011 he trained under the guidance of Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre.

He served as a conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in Minsk from 2008 to 2017, as an artistic director and principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra at the Belarusian State Academy of Music from 2012 to 2017 and as a principal conductor at the Rostov State Musical Theater from 2017 to 2023.

Andrey Ivanov is a conductor and stage director of such operas as Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gounod’s Faust, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Puccini’s Turandot, Poulenc’s La Voix humaine, Musorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini, Vladimir Soltan’s The Wild Hunt of King Stah and such ballets as Minkus’s La Bayadère, Pugni’s La Esmeralda, Delibes’s Coppélia, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, Khachaturian’s Spartacus, to name a few. In 2024 he served as an assistant conductor to Valery Gergiev upon preparation of La Cenerentola and conducted premiere performances of the opera in the 241^st season.

His repertoire includes over seventy operas and ballets and a great number of symphonic compositions. He has appeared in Spain, Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and other countries. He has performed at the Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Palau de la Música Catalana and L’Auditori in Barcelona, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Auditorium Parco della Musica and the Concert Hall of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Berwald Concert Hall in Stockholm, the Konserthuset in Gothenburg, and many other venues.

Andrey Ivanov is a recipient of the Golden Diploma at the XII International Slavic Music Forum Golden Knight (Moscow, 2021) for Khovanshchina performance.
