Xu Gang

Assistant to the Artistic Director, Ballet Master, General Répétiteur

Graduated from Beijing Dance Academy in 1987 he entered the National Ballet of China in the same year. He has danced various leading roles in works such as La Fille Mal Gardée, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, Le Corsaire, La Sylphide, The Red Detachment of Women, Lan Huahua, The Sleeping Beauty, Lin Daiyu, La Bayadère, The Preludes, Serenade, Theme and Variations and Concertos.

Xu won the Second Prize at the Prix De Lausanne International Ballet Competition in 1985 and the First Prize of Soloist Group at the National Ballet Competition. With NBC, he has toured countries and areas like the United States, Japan, Russia, France, Australia, Denmark, Israel, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Holland, Brazil, Korea, Italy, Indonesia, Singapore, Canada, Hongkong SAR, Macao SAR, Taiwan Province of China and so on.

In 2002, Xu started his further study in Laban Dance Center, London, The United Kingdom. In 2003, he participated the creation of Swan Lake (Chinese Version) as a member of the choreography group. In the same year, except cooperating with Jiang Kun and Yu Long to choreograph Soldier’s Tale. His Ode to Yimeng in Three Acts was successfully premiered at Beijing Tianqiao Theater in May, 2017.

Successively collaborated with Roland Petit, Natalia Makarova, John Neumeier, Ben Stevenson, Reid Anderson, Manuel Legris, Wang Xinpeng, Fei Bo and so on, he presented many excellent ballet works such as Carmen, Pink Floyd Ballet, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Beethoven Symphony No.7, The Little Mermaid, Don Quixote, La Chauve Souris, Raise the Red Lantern and The Peony Pavilion to the Chinese audience. On the activities of introducing classic art into campus in recent years, he has organized more than a hundred performances of A Journey into Ballet which has been loved by hundreds of thousands of audiences. What’s more, he also devotes himself to promotint ballet to the public on China Central Television, Radio Beijing and Presses like the People’s Daily.

In January 2014, he was invited to be the judge for the 42th Prix De Lausanne International Ballet Competition.
