Sun Ruichen


Principal Dancer of the National Ballet of China

Sun Ruichen was born in September 1988. From 1998 to 2004, he studied at Ballet school affiliated to Liaoning Ballet. Then he entered Beijing Dance Academy in 2004. After graduation from there, he joined the National Ballet of China in 2008.

He was awarded the young men’s silver prize in Helsinki 7th International Ballet Competition in June 2012. And in July 2013, he attended the Second Beijing International Ballet and choreography competition and won the best pas de deux (non-competing partner). He has danced leading roles in The Chinese New Year (Chinese version of The Nutcracker), Swan Lake and La Chauve-souris. He has also participated in many NBC repertoire: Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.3, Beethoven Symphony No.7, Firebird, Etudes, Carmen, Onegin, The Little Mermaid, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, Don Quixote, The Red Detachment of Women, Raise the Red Lantern, Yellow River, The Peony Pavilion, Esmeralda pas de deux, Aubert Grand pas de deux, The Sleeping Beauty pas de deux, etc. His modern dance repertoire includes Goodbye, my love, On the Road, Guangling random thought, Sacrifice and so on.

During the past years, he has toured with the company in many countries and regions including Germany, France, Netherlands, UK, Finland, Switzerland, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Cuba, Australia, South Korea, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
