Ma Xiaodong


Principal Dancer of the National Ballet of China

Graduated from Beijing Dance Academy in 2009 and joined the National Ballet of China in the same year, Ma Xiaodong is the winner of bronze prize of Varna International Ballet Competition in 2008 and silver prize of the same competition in 2010. He also won the first prize of Taoli Cup National Dance Competition in 2009 and Grand Prix of Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition in 2011.

With his company, Ma has danced serious of leading roles in Don Quixote, La Chauve-Souris, Giselle, The Little Mermaid, Swan Lake, The Chinese New Year, The Peony Pavilion, Le Sacre du Printemps and L’arlesienne among many other classical ballets. His modern pieces include Confucius 2012, Dusk, Hamlet, Close Your Eyes When It Is Getting Dark, etc.

With the company he toured in UK, France, Germany, USA, Australia, Switzerland, South Korea, as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. As a guest artist, he participated in Presidential Performance in Kazakhstan in 2012, and Swan Lake performance with Finnish National Ballet in 2013. In 2014, he danced in Cuba as a member of the delegation for President Xi Jinping’s visit of the country. In February 2015, he was a guest principal at Richmond Ballet for their premiere of Don Quixote.
