The Primorsky Stage to Go on Its First Tour to Krasnoyarsk

From May 28, 2025 to June 8, 2025, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will tour in Krasnoyarsk. Its “Great Tour” is organized by the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture ROSCONCERT, according to the All-Russian Tour and Concert Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. As part of the “Leading Theatres” line of the “Great Tour” project, the ballets Konyok-Gorbunok (The Little Humpbacked Horse), The Firebird and Phaedra, the operas Don Pasquale, Pagliacci and Iolanta and a gala concert will be toured at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

According to Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, “The main purpose of the All-Russian Tour and Concert Plan is to familiarize as many Russians as possible with performances of our national ensembles and theatres. New participants join the project yearly, and we are thrilled that our creative community is an ever-growing one. Thus our unique cultural traditions and our musical and theatrical schools are preserved as well as find new addicts all over Russia.”

The Primorsky Stage will present its original performances and recent premieres to the Krasnoyarsk public.

The tour program will open with ballet productions. Rodion Shchedrin’s Konyok-Gorbunok (The Little Humpbacked Horse) will be performed on May 28, May 29 and May 30, 2025. On May 31 and June 1, 2025, the audience will be able to enjoy the original one-act ballet performances The Firebird and Phaedra. In Russia, the latter is only included in the repertoire of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The Opera Company of the Primorsky Stage will continue the series of performances. In September 2024, the Primorsky Stage first went on its large-scale tour to Moscow to mark the opening of the season at the Bolshoi Theatre, and its tour to Krasnoyarsk will brilliantly terminate the season. The premiere of the last season – the bel canto era operatic masterpiece Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti – will be performed on June 3 and June 4, 2025. The operatic drama Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo will be performed on June 5 and June 6, 2025. This pearl of Italian verismo is originally staged and designed by Marat Gatsalov, a recipient of the Golden Mask theatre prize. On June 7, 2025, the Primorsky Stage will present Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s brightest opera Iolanta. This philosophical fairy tale of the revival of love and inner light will be presented in the production staged by Anna Shishkina and designed by Pyotr Okunev, a nominee for the Golden Mask theatre prize in 2025 for the best Set and Costume Designer’s work.

The grand gala concert will be the final event on tour. On June 8, 2025, it is to be given by soloists of the Opera Company, the Chorus of the Primorsky Stage and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under the baton of Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Theatre.
