Spectacular Performances and Virtuoso Musicians: Eastern Economic Forum Cultural Program Events on the Primorsky Stage

From September 4 to 6, 2024, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will host special events as part of the cultural program of the Eastern Economic Forum.

On September 4, 2024, a performance by the renowned pianist Denis Matsuev and famous Russian jazzmen Andrei Ivanov (double bass) and Alexander Zinger (drums), accompanied by the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexey Rubin will be hosted by the Great Hall of the Theatre. The programme includes works by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Sergei Prokofiev and George Gershwin.

On September 5, 2024, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflöte will be performed. The fairy-tale work is imbibed with profound philosophical meaning and was created in the best traditions of the German singspiel, i.e. a piece with singing, in which virtuoso vocal numbers are alternated with witty playful spoken dialogues. Die Zauberflöte is the composer’s last opera, which has become one of the most famous and performed operas in the world.

On September 6, 2024, the public will enjoy one of the most spectacular performances in the Theatre’s repertoire, the colorful ballet La Bayadère by Ludwig Minkus. In this ballet, choreographer Marius Petipa has masterfully combined the exuberant entourage of the exotic East and the standoffish academicism of the Kingdom of Shades. This ballet can be called a diamond from the precious box of classical ballets. Today, it continues to sparkle with all its facets.

The symphonic and chamber programs will be represented by concerts at the Primorsky Branch of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts on Russky Island and in the Chamber Hall of the Theatre. On September 6, 2024, in the afternoon, the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Dušan Vilić will perform in the concert hall of the Primorsky Branch of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts on Russky Island together with graduates and students of the Academy. The same day later, soloists of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts, prize-winners at international competitions, will give a concert in the Chamber Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
