October Playbill of the Primorsky Stage: Premiere Performances of Don Pasquale, On-Stage Celebration of the Anniversary of Eldar Aliev’s Artistic Career and Denis Matsuev’s Festival

In October, new repertoire items and popular favorites will make their return to the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. In addition, the autumn playbill will delight the public with special events.

The first performance of October will be a high-profile premiere, Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera Don Pasquale. This benchmark of the opera buffa genre tells the story of a wealthy aristocrat bamboozled by young lovers, and enchants the audience with its vivid characters and exquisite Rococo-style scenery. Last week, this bel canto era masterpiece was performed on the Primorsky Stage and was warmly welcomed by the audience. The performance transfer had been carried out by the Stage Director and Choreographer of the Mariinsky Theatre Ilya Ustyantsev. You can enjoy the premiere again on October 9 and 11, 2024. The opera playbill includes other performances, no less vivid and cheerful. On October 13, 2024, the public will be treated to the colorful opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, The Tale of Tsar Saltan, and on October 19, 2024 (at 14:00 and 19:00), the sparkling operetta by Johann Strauss II, Die Fledermaus.

On October 10 and 12, 2024 (at 15:00 and 19:00), the ballet playbill will feature a performance that has become the hallmark of the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage, Fikret Amirov’s A Thousand and One Nights. This ballet is in demand both in Russia and abroad; immediately after the performances in Vladivostok, it will go on a new tour. In October, the stage director and choreographer of the popular performance, Honored Artistic Creator of Russia, Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage Eldar Aliev, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his artistic career. The evening performance on October 12, 2024 will mark this event. Also in October, ballet lovers will be able to enjoy Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s large-scale ballet-féerie The Sleeping Beauty (October 16 and 17, 2024) and Ludwig Minkus’s dynamic ballet Don Quixote (October 20, 2024).

On October 23 and 24, 2024, the renowned pianist Denis Matsuev will present Generations Dialogue Music Festival for the first time in Vladivostok. This project will bring together young virtuosos and world-famous musicians, who will meet on the Primorsky Stage. The programme of the first evening includes a large Gala concert with the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Pavel Smelkov. The second day of the Festival will delight music connoisseurs with the programme “From Classics to Jazz”.

The Chamber Hall of the Theatre will open its doors to the younger audiences as well. On October 12, 2024 (at 12:00 and 15:00) the musical fantasia Town Musicians of Bremen by Gennady Gladkov based on the famous tales by the Brothers Grimm will be performed. On October 20, 2024 (at 12:00 and 14:00), children will enjoy the cheerful fairy-tale The Turnip by Rustam Sagdiev, where Russian folklore is skillfully combined with the opera genre.
