The September Playbill of the Primorsky Stage to Include the Premiere Performances of the Opera Don Pasquale and the Events of the Cultural Program of the Eastern Economic Forum

Traditionally, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is in for many exciting events in September.

Cultural Program of the Eastern Economic Forum

During the Eastern Economic Forum, the Theatre Halls will be hosting high-profile concert programs. On September 4, 2024, the Great Hall will give its stage to the famous virtuoso pianist Denis Matsuev, famous jazzmen Andrei Ivanov (double bass) and Alexander Zinger (drums), accompanied by the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexey Rubin. The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will give two joint concerts with students of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts. On September 5, 2024, the concert will take place in the Concert Hall of the Primorsky Branch of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts, and on September 6, 2024, in the Chamber Hall of the Theatre.

During the Forum, the audience will also enjoy colorful performances of the Primorsky Stage. On September 5, 2024, the heart-stirring opera Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be performed, and on September 6, 2024 – the magnificent classical ballet La Bayadère by Ludwig Minkus.

The Central Premiere of This Fall

On September 14 and 15, 2024, the first premiere of the season will be presented, the comic opera Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti. The work is one of the twenty most performed Italian operas and is considered one of the composer’s most perfect masterpieces. The plot of the opera is a story of misadventures of the main character, a rich aged bachelor who decided to marry a young bride and was deceived by his own nephew. In 1980, the opera was staged at the Mariinsky Theatre by director Yuri Alexandrov and the famous set designer Igor Ivanov. In 2022, young choreographer and stage director Ilya Ustyantsev proposed a new version of the performance, where the cheerful nature of the opera, the picturesque design and the chamber character of the production were preserved. It is this version, revived and understandable to every modern audience, will be presented in Vladivostok.

The parts are being rehearsed by soloists of the Opera Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The scenery and costumes have been made in the Theatre’s workshops in Vladivostok.

Gems of the Repertoire

In early fall, the audiences at the Primorsky Stage will be treated to their favorite repertoire productions as well. Thus, on September 1, 2024, the opera playbill features the blazing, scorching Carmen by Georges Bizet, and on September 7, 2024, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, Eugene Onegin.

The ballet playbill also promises some unforgettable impressions of high-profile classical productions. On September 8, 2024, the audience will be offered Ludwig Minkus’s colorful ballet La Bayadère; on September 12 and 13, 2024, ballet lovers will enjoy the fantastic Giselle by Adolphe Adam.

The Pacific Theatre Festival

From September 20 to October 6, 2024, the Primorsky Stage will become the main venue for the III Pacific Theatre Festival. On October 5 and 6, 2024, as part of this cultural forum, performance-concert “Onegin. A Lyrical Digression” will be held, with the participation of the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage. Pushkin’s characters will be embodied by People’s Artists of Russia Yevgeny Mironov and Marina Aleksandrova.
