From August 23 to 25, 2024, more than 3,500 Chinese ballet connoisseurs enjoyed the original production of Fikret Amirov’s A Thousand and One Nights performed by the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
The company performed in the Chinese capital for the first time at the new venue of the Beijing Performing Arts Centre. The tour took place as part of the Cross Years of Russian-Chinese Culture.
Every day of the tour, the audience greeted the performers and accompanied them from the stage with loud applause. Words of admiration and gratitude were expressed by the honored guests who visited the performances: Governor of Primorsky Region Oleg Kozhemyako, Party Secretary of Beijing Municipality Yin Li, Director of the National Grand Theatre of China Wang Ning, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the People’s Republic of China Bunyad Huseynov, as well as Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in China Andrei Povalyaev.
The main parts were performed by the leading soloists of the Primorsky Stage. The performances were accompanied by the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ayyub Guliyev. The Chorus and soloists of the Opera Company of the Primorsky Stage Anastasia Kikot and Samira Galimova also took part in the performances.
The performances in Beijing marked the onset of the Ballet Company’s foreign tour in the 2024/25 season, as well as the launch of new creative projects to be held together with Chinese colleagues.
The next performances of Fikret Amirov’s ballet A Thousand and One Nights will take place in the coming autumn on the company’s home stage. The performances will take place in Vladivostok at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on October 10 and 12, 2024.
