On September 4, 2024, pianist Denis Matsuev and the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform as part of the IX Eastern Economic Forum. The young and successful orchestra, which epitomizes the future of Russia’s academic music, will take part in the cultural program of the Eastern Economic Forum for the third time. The concert will take place in the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre; the conductor’s stand will be occupied by maestro Alexey Rubin. The RNYSO’s performance at the Eastern Economic Forum is traditionally supported by Russian Railways.
Part I of the program is dedicated to masterpieces of Russian symphonic music, united by the element of dance. The Youth Orchestra will perform Capriccio espagnol by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the composer’s birth) and the Suite from the ballet Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev.
The evening will culminate with Rhapsody in Blue for piano and orchestra with jazz cadenzas by Denis Matsuev. Together with the acclaimed pianist, his regular stage partners will perform: Honored Artist of Russia, leading Russian jazz double bassist Andrei Ivanov and winner of prestigious jazz awards, drummer Alexander Zinger.
Denis Matsuev has established a long-standing creative collaboration with the Youth Orchestra. The distinguished musician plays an important role in the fate of the RNYSO. From the very first days of the Orchestra’s existence, he has performed together with the young musicians. They have become regular participants in many festivals and projects of Denis Matsuev.
In August, the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra launched its seventh concert season. Over the past years, the Orchestra, which consists of more than 120 performers, has become an integral part of the national concert life: it has held more than 230 concerts, performing in 37 cities and towns in different parts of the country, from the Far East to Pskov, from Rostov-on-Don to Salekhard. The RNYSO regularly takes part in the most significant Russian festivals, as well as in other large-scale cultural and social events. Thus, in early 2024, the Youth Orchestra presented its program as part of the cultural program of the 8th Russian-Chinese EXPO in Harbin.
From its first days, the RNYSO has existed as a Symphony Academy. Musicians learn from mentors from the largest Russian and foreign orchestras, and take classes from professors of national and world leading music high schools. These classes serve as a powerful creative motivation for their fulfillment in the profession.
The Youth Orchestra has become an efficient source of highly qualified personnel, and this is another important mission of the ensemble. Every year, RNMSO alumni join the best national orchestras. Their successful experience inspires their peers and helps to revive the prestige of the profession of an orchestral musician.
