The November playbill of the Primorsky Stage will feature the International Mariinsky Far East Festival, world classics, and unique chamber concerts

The last autumn month in the repertoire of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be full of notable events. The current playbill contains premieres and best performances. Great events are also awaiting the audiences at the International Mariinsky Far East Festival.

IX International Mariinsky Far East Festival

The IX International Mariinsky Far East Festival will be taking place in Vladivostok from October 29 till November 17, 2024. The opera and ballet programmes will be presented in a special format. The opera programme will be presented from October 29 to November 3, 2024. From November 14 to 17, 2024, the Far East audiences will enjoy the recent ballet premieres of the Mariinsky Theatre, Coppélia and Anyuta.

On October 29, 2024, the large-scale forum will open with Rodion Shchedrin’s contemporary opera-parable The Enchanted Wanderer. The leading parts, accompanied by the combined Mariinsky Orchestra and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under the baton of Valery Gergiev, will be performed by the soloists of the Primorsky Stage Yevgeny Plekhanov, Ilya Astafurov, and Tatiana Makarchuk.

On October 30, 2024, soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre Tatiana Serjan and Sergei Skorokhodov will present Tosca by Giacomo Puccini produced by the Primorsky Stage. On October 31, 2024, the premiere of the opera Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed by the outstanding singers of the Mariinsky Theatre: Vyacheslav Vasilyev, Sergei Skorokhodov, Yakov Strizhak, Olga Maslova, and Zinaida Tsarenko. On these two days, the Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Valery Gergiev.

The opera programme of the Festival will end with the premiere performances of Gioachino Rossini’s opera La Cenerentola. The fairy-tale opera buffa will be presented by several casts of soloists from St.Petersburg. On November 2 and 3, 2024 at 19:00, Tsvetana Omeltchuk, Isabella Andriasyan, Anna Knyazeva, Denis Zakirov, Vladimir Feliauer, Sergei Romanov, Denis Begansky will take the stage; on November 3, 2024 at 13:00, Svetlana Karpova, Isabella Andriasyan, Anna Knyazeva, Klim Tikhonov, Miroslav Molchanov, Viktor Korotich, and Yakov Strizhak. The performances will be accompanied by the Chamber Chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Pavel Smelkov.

The ballet part of the music forum will take place from November 14 to 17, 2024. During these four days, the Far East audiences will be able to enjoy for the first time the recent St.Petersburg premieres: Anyuta set to music by Valery Gavrilin (November 14 and 15, 2024), and Coppélia by Leo Delibes (November 16 and 17, 2024 at 14:00 and 19:00). The main parts will be performed by outstanding dancers of the Mariinsky Theatre: prima ballerinas Renata Shakirova and Nadezhda Batoeva, principal dancer Kimin Kim, soloists Alexander Sergeev, Konstantin Zverev, Roman Malyshev, Maxim Izmestiev, Alexandra Khiteyeva, Maxim Zyuzin, Roman Belyakov, Nikita Korneyev, Yaroslav Baibordin, May Nagahisa, Vlada Borodulina, and Philipp Stepin. The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will be conducted by Arseny Shuplyakov. 

Opera and Ballet Masterpieces

The November repertoire playbill will present the recent premieres of the Primorsky Stage: the masterpiece of bel canto era Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti (November 6 and 8, 2024) and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s brightest opera Iolanta (November 30, 2024). The November repertoire of the Primorsky Stage will also include the operas Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo (November 10, 2024), Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi (November 21, 2024), Carmen by Georges Bizet (November 24, 2024), and Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (November 28, 2024).

The ballet playbill of the month will feature the most popular performances of the classical heritage, the epitomes of classical dance imagery: Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (November 7, 2024) and La Bayadère by Ludwig Minkus (November 27 and 29, 2024), as well as new interpretations of classical performances in the original versions of the Primorsky Stage: Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam (November 9, 2024 at 15:00 and 19:00) and The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (November 22, 23, 2024 at 14:00 and 19:00).

Special Events at the Chamber Hall

In November, the Chamber Hall will present new chamber repertoire programmes. On November 6, 2024, a memorable Evening of music for trombone will take place. The programme will include works by Alexander Borodin, Ferdinand David, Gottfried Finger, Claude Debussy, Frank Martin, and Enrique Crespo. The music will be performed by an ensemble of trombones, tuba, and piano, revealing the multifaceted sound of these instruments. On November 23, 2024, the audiences will be able to enjoy “Melodies of the 20th century” programme. Opera soloists and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will perform works by contemporary composers. The programme will include vocal miniatures and instrumental works by Nino Rota, Jefrem Podgaitz, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Alexander Zhurbin, as well as music by Giya Kancheli from the films When Almonds Blossomed, Day of Wrath, Don’t Grieve, Tears Were Falling arranged for piano.

For the youngest audiences, the Chamber Hall will present performances from the children’s playbill: Murych the Cat by Sergei Banevich (November 9, 2024), and The Turnip by Rustam Sagdiev (November 23, 2024 at 12:00 and 14:00).
