In October, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will expand the geography of the Rachmaninoff – 150 Project. The performances to commemorate the composer’s anniversary will be taking place not only in the Theatre, but also at other venues in the Primorsky Territory. Vocal masterpieces by the outstanding Russian composer will be performed by soloists of the Opera Company and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under the baton of Pavel Smelkov on October 3, 2023, at the “Primorye” Folk Culture Centre in Spassk-Dalny, and on October 5, 2023, at the Officers’ House of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok. On October 19, 2023, the Primorsky Stage itself will act host: as part of the all-Russian marathon “My Rachmaninoff”, the audiences will enjoy the composer’s popular works performed by the prize-winner at the Tchaikovsky Competition, pianist Stanislav Korchagin accompanied by the National Symphonic Orchestra of the Republic of Bashkortostan conducted by Dmitry Kryukov.
The October playbill has also been replenished with opera performances. On October 13, 2023, the audiences will enjoy a dramatic love story about the clash of different cultures in the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. Some space will be allotted for carefree fun as well: on October 15, 2023, an opera for the whole family The Tale of Tsar Saltan by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov will be performed, and on October 21, 2023, – Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II. At the end of the month, the audience will be treated to the tightly-plotted opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi (October 27, 2023) and a brilliant example of lyrical opera, Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (October 29, 2023).
The Chamber Hall of the Theatre will host several opera performances for the youngest audiences, Murych the Cat by Sergei Banevich (October 1 and 8, 2023), The Little Prince by Leonid Klinichev (October 14, 2023) and The Turnip by Rustam Sagdiev (October 22, 2023).
On October 20, 2023, the ballet playbill of the month will be complemented by the second performance of Raymonda by Alexander Glazunov, a vivid romantic ballet in the best traditions of the classical heritage. Since its premiere, this production has won the affection of the public and become one of the most demanded ballets in the Company’s repertoire.
