On July 21, 2023, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre held a press conference dedicated to the opening of the VIII International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok.
The Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage Eldar Aliev spoke about the aspects of the forum and its ballet program:
“This year’s large-scale event will be held in a new format: the ballet and opera parts of the Festival will be presented on separate dates. A distinctive feature of this Festival is that it will give stage not only to the leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre; the second parts will also be performed by the guests from St. Petersburg. The decision to change the usual format of the Festival’s ballet part was taken by the Director of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev who wanted to establish a single space for creative activity embracing the main venue of the Mariinsky Theatre and its branches”.
The soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, principal ballet dancer Oxana Skorik, principal ballet dancer Andrei Yermakov, first soloist Alexander Sergeev, and soloist Ruslan Stenyushkin also answered the journalists’ questions. The guest dancers shared their expectations for the upcoming forum and spoke about the creative exchange with the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage.
On July 22 to July 27, 2023, the audience will enjoy the ballet part of the Festival consisting of performances of Raymonda by Alexander Glazunov, Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus, and Giselle by Adolphe Adam. The main and second parts will be performed by the leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre.
The Festival events will be held as part of the “Great Tour” Project organized by the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture ROSCONCERT in accordance with the All-Russian Tour and Concert Plan set up by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
