The Program of the VIII International Mariinsky Far East Festival to Include Giselle Ballet Featuring Brilliant Dancers from Saint Petersburg

On July 26 and 27, 2023, the summer part of the VIII International Mariinsky Far East Festival will culminate in performances of the most mystical ballet of the classical repertoire: Giselle by Adolphe Adam. Leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, as well as the entire ballet company of the Primorsky Stage, will take part in the performances. Immediately after the end of the forum, the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage will start its traditional tour to Saint Petersburg.

Giselle is one of the first and most beautiful French romantic ballets. Its libretto is based on a fantasy story about a love that transcends the boundaries of worlds. The tender heart of a peasant girl was full of love, but was cruelly shattered by her lover’s betrayal and stopped beating. The image of Giselle is a complex and multifaceted one. At the start, the heroine is all happiness and love. Then she becomes insane and dies, and after her death she returns from heavens to her unfaithful groom to forgive him.

It is noteworthy that Giselle is the first performance of the Mariinsky Theatre that was included into the repertoire of the Primorsky Stage in 2015. A year later, the ballet opened the I International Mariinsky Far East Festival. Today, its performances come as the bright ending of the first, summer part of the forum.

On July 26, 2023, the main parts will be performed by soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre: Principal Dancer Oxana Skorik, Nikita Korneyev, Ruslan Stenyushkin, Maria Bulanova. On July 27, 2023, the dreamlike atmosphere will be created by Anastasia Lukina, Alexander Sergeev, Ruslan Stenyushkin, Maria Bulanova.

The entire ballet company of the Primorsky Stage will be involved in the performances. For the first time, the dancers will take part in all the performances of the Festival, after which they will leave to perform on the Historical and New Stages of the Mariinsky Theatre. From August 1 to August 10, 2023, the dancers will present original versions of The Nutcracker, Le Corsaire and A Thousand and One Nights in Saint Petersburg.
