The Premiere Performances of Raymonda will Mark Irina Kolpakova's 90th Birthday

This week, on May 26, 27 and 28, 2023, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be graced by the main ballet premiere, Raymonda by Alexander Glazunov, revised by Eldar Aliev. The series of premiere performances is dedicated to the anniversary of the outstanding ballerina, choreographer and pedagogue Irina Kolpakova.

For more than three decades, soviet ballet star, Irina Kolpakova,  shone on the stage of the Kirov State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (now the Mariinsky Theatre), performing the leading parts of the classical repertoire. Critics have always unanimously admired her virtuosity, her strict and noble academic style. For her accurate and easy dance they called her a “crystal ballerina”.

The bright dancer has performed some of her most memorable parts in The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Raymonda. It is noteworthy that the part of Raymonda is considered one of the most difficult parts in the classical ballet repertoire. Irina Kolpakova started dancing it at the age of 30, being already an established master.

Raymonda will be the final premiere of the Primorsky Stage season. A new interpretation of the classical heritage will be presented by the head ballet master of the Theatre Eldar Aliev. Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage, will be at the console of the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage during the premiere performances.
