The Opera Season Ends at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

While closing the season, the Opera Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre presents the best operas by Verdi and by Tchaikovsky and some vivid family-friendly performances, which give the last opportunity to enjoy live theatrics, amazing voices and great composers’ music on the eve of the theatrical summer vacation.

On May 19, 2023, the passionate opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi is on the playbill. For the first time in history of the genre, an old hunchback – the Duke’s court jester Rigoletto, double-hearted and embittered, has become a hero of the opera. A repellent character at the first glance, he has been turned by Verdi into an extremely solid, complex and multifaceted hero. The delicate pithy performance staged by Irkin Gabitov is a perfect background for the dramatic plot where the desire for revenge leads to the hero’s personal tragedy.

On May 21, 2023, the mystical masterpiece The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be performed. The opera music astounds with psychologically true and brilliant pictures of Catherine’s era, and the mystical secret of the three cards keeps the audience in suspense until the finale. Yuri Temirkanov’s classical production is an emotional attraction that causes the audience to feel in a new way and more deeply the famous music thriller.

Some colorful family-friendly performances will also delight guests at the end of the month.

On May 20, 2023, the touching opera The Little Prince by Leonid Klinichev will be performed in the Chamber Hall. The ideas laid behind this opera find a lively response among children and remind adults of important things that are often forgotten in everyday rush.

On May 23 and on May 28, 2023, Rustam Sagdiev’s lively opera The Turnip recently premiered will be performed at the House of Officers of Ussuriysk Garrison and at the Primorsky Stage respectively. The folk tale of unity and friendship is originally designed and aimed at acquainting the youngest audiences with the operatic theatre and the Russian folklore.
