Premiere Performances of Raymonda Ballet and Prince Igor Opera to be Held on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is getting ready to end the season sumptuously. The audience will enjoy the premiere performances of the ballet Raymonda and a concert performance of the epic opera Prince Igor

On May 26, 27 and 28, 2023 Eldar Aliev, head ballet master of the Primorsky Stage, will present his own version of the ballet Raymonda. Raymonda is the first ballet by Alexander Glazunov, which has become a triumph for the composer, and at the same time one of the late grand ballets by the choreographer Marius Petipa. The plot is based on a medieval legend about the fight between a noble knight and a Saracen sheikh for the heart of a beautiful princess.

An astonishing ballerina role and an exciting plot, together with the fully-developed classical and character dance scenes have made this ballet a world heritage that still inspires new choreographers. The Vladivostok audience will appreciate the original interpretation of the classical masterpiece at the end of May.

The ballet playbill of the first half of the month will also be a real treat for the audience. The classical repertoire will be represented by the sunny Don Quixote (May 1, 2023), the enchanting The Sleeping Beauty (May 4, 2023) and the colorful Le Corsaire (May 8, 2023). The own productions of the Primorsky Ballet Company will include the fabulous The Firebird and one of the last ballet premieres of the Primorsky Stage, Phaedra (May 6, 2023). The festive atmosphere will be also upheld by The Nutcracker (May 11, 2023) and a modern reading of the bright oriental fairy tale A Thousand and One Nights (May 13, 2023).

For music lovers, a large historical opera Prince Igor will be performed on May 9, 2023. This will be its premiere performance in Vladivostok. Leading soloists, the Chorus and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will take part in the concert performance of the opera. The opera playbill of the month also includes an impressive production of Turandot (May 5, 2023), the charming Le nozze di Figaro (May 7, 2023), an opera of seething passions Pagliacci (May 13, 2023) and the colorful The Tale of Tsar Saltan (May 14, 2023).

The musical playbill of May also contains concerts timed to coincide with important holidays and dates. On May 6 and May 7, 2023, on the threshold of the Victory Day, songs of the war years will be performed in the Chamber Hall. On May 22, 2023 a concert dedicated to the Day of Slavonic Literature will take place in the Great Hall. The musical season will end with Le quattro stagioni by Antonio Vivaldi illustrated with sand animation (May 27, 2023).

Among the favorite family performances of May there will be operas The Turnip by Rustam Sagdiev (May 6, May 28, 2023), Murych the Cat by Sergei Banevich (May 13, 2023) and The Little Prince by Leonid Klinichev (May 20, 2023).
