The Primorsky Stage to Present its Versions of Classical Ballets on Tour in St Petersburg

From February 21 to March 2, 2023, St Petersburg is going to host the traditional winter tour of the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. This year, the Vladivostok dancers will present Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam, The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and A Thousand and One Nights by Fikret Amirov at the Historical and New Stages of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The series of performances will open with the most fabulous classical ballet, The Nutcracker, from February 21 to 26, 2023. The Primorsky Stage presents The Nutcracker in the expressive Eldar Aliev’s choreography. This vivid ballet is a real theatrical extravaganza with colorful costumes by Galina Solovieva and scenery by Semyon Pastukh, bringing back the already forgotten Christmas mood. On February 22 and 23, 2023, the ballet A Thousand and One Nights by Fikret Amirov will be performed at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre; on February 28, March 1 and 2, 2023, the same stage will host Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam. Both productions are also choreographed by Eldar Aliev.

Leading soloists of the Primorsky Stage Lilia Berezhnova, Sergei Umanetc, Viktor Mulygin, will perform on tour, as well as other talented young dancers. At the Mariinsky Theatre, some of them will perform parts that are new to them as yet.

Today, the Primorsky Stage ballet company includes more than 80 graduates from the leading national ballet schools. They are given a unique chance to demonstrate their skills to the demanding St Petersburg public, and to perform on the stage of the famous Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg”, said Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage Eldar Aliev.

Soloists of the Mariinsky Ballet Renata Shakirova, Anastasia Lukina, Nikita Korneyev and Alexei Timofeyev will also take part in the tour performances. In addition, young students of the Boris Eifman Dance Academy are involved in the ballets Le Corsaire and The Nutcracker. In performance of A Thousand and One Nights, Principal Conductor and Musical Director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Ayyub Guliyev, will take the podium of the Mariinsky Orchestra. The conductor of the Primorsky Stage, Vitaly Shevelev, will conduct the ballets Le Corsaire and The Nutcracker.

The arrival of the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will come as part of the “Great Tour”, organized under the auspices of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Culture ROSCONCERT in accordance with the All-Russian Tour and Concert Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
