The Liaoning Ballet of China to Be on Tour at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in February

The famous Liaoning Ballet of China will be on tour at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre from February 20 to February 25, 2024. The audiences will be able to acquaint themselves with new original Chinese productions such as Sundial and Notre-Dame de Paris.

The Liaoning Ballet of China was founded in 1980. It is one of the leading ballet companies in Asia, which closely collaborates with ballet masters and choreographers from France, German, Russia, the USA, South Africa, Denmark, and other countries. The company’s repertoire includes classical and contemporary ballets. The Liaoning Ballet adheres to the classical traditions while endeavoring to create original performances and preserving features of the national art.

The Liaoning Ballet of China has already appeared at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. In 2017 the company presented the ballet Eight Heroines and the Gala of Chinese Ballet. In the summer of 2019 the Vladivostok audience could enjoy the Chinese and Foreign Classical Ballet as well as the Modern Ballet Galas. In 2020 the Chinese dancers performed the ballets Spartacus choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich, and their own version of Mulan based on Oriental classic literature.

This time the company is to present a new program of brilliant contemporary performances.

On February 20 and 21, 2024, the audiences will be able to enjoy Sundial. It breaks the traditional structure of ballet and familiarizes the public with the Chinese culture of the “sundial”. The plot is focused on the concept of the twelve hours of the sundial, showcasing the ups and downs and resilience of individuals in time and destiny.

On February 23, 24 and 25, 2024, the ballet Notre-Dame de Paris based on Victor Hugo’s novel will be performed at the Primorsky Stage. Choreographed in the neoclassical style, the performance has been created for the Liaoning Ballet Theatre by the renowned dancer and choreographer Patrick de Bana.
