On November 18, 2023, soloists will present Ruggero Leoncavallo’s opera Pagliacci on the Historical Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. This production has been staged and designed by Marat Gatsalov, recepient of the Golden Mask theatre prize. The performance will become part of the program of the IX Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum.
The main parts will be performed by Alexei Kostyuk (Canio), Alina Mikhailik (Nedda), Marat Mukhametzyanov (Tonio), Mingiyan Odzhaev (Beppe). The part of Silvio will be sung by Vyacheslav Vasilyev, soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre and guest soloist of the Primorsky Stage, who took part in the premiere performances of the opera in Vladivostok.
American conductor Christian Knapp will take the baton to conduct the orchestra.
“I think that these tours are very important. They demonstrate that today the companies from Saint Petersburg, Vladivostok and Vladikavkaz have really achieved cohesion. Over the past two or three years, the artists of the Primorsky Stage have been regularly coming to Saint Petersburg to participate in performances of the Mariinsky Theatre. These are Alena Diyanova, Ilya Astafurov, Vyacheslav Vasilyev, Olga Maslova, Alina Mikhailik, Anastasia Kikot, Bat-Erdene Dorjtseden. I hope this list will expand in the future.
It is extremely important for me that during the Forum, a “native”, unique performance of the Primorsky Stage, produced especially for Vladivostok, will be presented. The Pagliacci directed by Marat Gatsalov has not yet been shown to the Northern capital. The singers will perform on the legendary Historical Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, and this is a significant event for each theatre company. In addition to the opera soloists, the Saint Petersburg audiences will have the chance to encounter the magnificent Chorus of the Primorsky Stage who will also take part in the performance. The Chorus directed by Larisa Shveikovskaya will perform for the first time at the Mariinsky Theatre”, commented the Artistic Director of the Opera Company of the Primorsky Stage, Irina Soboleva.
On December 8, 2023, the Pagliacci will return to the Far East, and will be performed under the baton of Dušan Vilić.
