The Love for Three Oranges and Town Musicians of Bremen: opera premiere performances of November, the Ballet Company tours and the winter playbill of the Primorsky Stage

On October 31, 2023, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre held the first opera premiere of the 2023/24 season, The Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev, staged by Alexander Petrov. That night, the Mariinsky Orchestra, together with the Opera Company and the Chorus of the Primorsky Stage, opened a series of premiere performances conducted by Valery Gergiev. The audiences will be able to enjoy the colorful comic opera in a new artistic design on November 10 and 11, December 13, 19, 26 and 27, 2023. After the New Year holidays, the performance will return to the Theatre’s playbill on January 24 and 26, 2024.

Another November premiere, Town Musicians of Bremen, an opera performance for the whole family, to the music by Gennady Gladkov, will take place at the Chamber Hall of the Theatre. It is a musical fantasia based on a tale by the Brothers Grimm written by the Soviet and Russian iconic composer, the author of music for popular movies, musicals and animated films. Town Musicians of Bremen will be performed for the first time on the Primorsky Stage on November 25, 2023 at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. Further performances will take place on December 23 and 30, 2023, January 4 and 8, 2024.

On November 4, 2023, a Russian music concert will take place dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Feodor Chaliapin. Opera arias, romances and Russian folk songs from the repertoire of the legendary singer will be performed by the recognized Russian opera singer, Grammy Award winner Nikolay Didenko (bass). Honored Artist of Russia, pianist and composer Alexander Pokidchenko will be at the piano this evening.

Throughout the year, large-scale concerts were held on the Primorsky Stage to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. At the end of the series of concerts, his spiritual masterpiece All-Night Vigil for mixed chorus will be performed (November 29, 2023), as well as The Miserly Knight opera and Symphony No. 2 (December 9, 2023). In January, connoisseurs of classical music will enjoy a big concert dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (January 28, 2024).

The Chamber Hall of the Theatre is going to host concerts with sand animation Stabat mater (November 12, 2023) and Le quattro stagioni (December 24, 2023, January 27, 2024). The children’s repertoire will be supplemented by the performances The Turnip (November 5 and 19, 2023, December 24, 2023, January 5 and 13, 2024), The Little Prince (November 12, 2023, December 16, 2023, January 2 and 20, 2024) and Murych the Cat (December 9, 2023, January 3 and 27, 2024).

The Opera Company of the Theatre is going to present Russian classics: Boris Godunov (November 3, 2023), Eugene Onegin (November 5, 2023, January 12, 2024), The Tale of Tsar Saltan (November 26, 2023, January 14, 2024), and The Snow Maiden (January 19, 2024). The audience will also be treated to such recognized opera masterpieces belonging to the global heritage as Die Zauberflöte (November 4, 2023, December 10, 2023), La traviata (November 24, 2023), Madama Butterfly (November 16, 2023), Carmen (December 1, 2023, January 21, 2024), Le nozze di Figaro (December 2 and 3, 2023), Rigoletto (December 7, 2023), and Tosca (December 8, 2023). After a long break, a monumental production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo will return to the repertoire (December 15, 2023). The intense repertoire playbill will be complemented by the brilliant Die Fledermaus (November 18, 2023, December 17, 2023, January 6 and 7, 2024).

On November 2 and 3, 2023, the Primorsky Stage Ballet Company performed The Sleeping Beauty ballet at the Harbin Grand Theatre, accompanied by the Harbin Symphony Orchestra, with the famous Chinese conductor Muhai Tang at the conductor’s stand. In addition, in early December the company will present a series of performances of the ballet A Thousand and One Nights in the capital of Qatar, Doha, for the first time.

The Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will present the best repertoire performances: Le Corsaire (November 9, 2023 and January 11, 2024), Don Quixote (November 12, 2023 and January 18, 2024), Konyok-Gorbunok (The Little Humpbacked Horse) (November 17, 2023 and January 27, 2024), Raymonda (November 19, 2023 and January 13, 2024), Carmen Suite and The Firebird (November 23, 2023, December 16, 2023), Swan Lake (November 25, 2023 and January 25, 2024), La Bayadère (November 30, 2023), Giselle (December 14, 2023), and The Sleeping Beauty (January 20, 2024).

The Nutcracker ballet, which will be performed from December 20, 2023 till January 8, 2024, will be creating the New Year’s festive mood. In the foyer of the Theatre, the young guests will be met by Ded Moroz and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) who will offer them an interesting program. A festive program will also traditionally be presented in the Chamber Hall. New Year Confetti concerts will take place from December 28 to December 31, 2023 and from January 2 to 5, 2024. The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will give a New Year gala concert on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University, which is annually visited by students and teachers of FEFU. The Orchestra will also traditionally perform in Ussuriysk with a festive concert.

In addition, in February the Primorsky Stage will host the Liaoning Ballet, one of the leading ballet companies in China.
