Valery Gergiev to Present an Extensive Program of Musical Pieces by Sergei Prokofiev in Vladivostok

The last days of October will be marked by a series of premieres and grandiose concert programs on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The top events of the month will be presented by the Mariinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev.

On October 30, 2023, at the Prokofiev-gala Concert, the audience will be treated to masterpieces created by one of the most significant composers of the 20th century.

The concert will be conducted by maestro Valery Gergiev. It will feature the famous Cantata Alexander Nevsky, based on the music to the legendary film of the same name by Sergei Eisenstein. Mezzo-soprano Zinaida Tsarenko, a revelation of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition where she became the Grand Prix, 1st Prize and Gold Medal winner, will perform as a soloist.

The program will also include the orchestral suite from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, and Symphony No. 5. The latter was once nicknamed “The Heroic Symphony of Our Days” for its colossal scope and strength.

On October 31, 2023, the first premiere of the season will take place. Sergei Prokofiev’s opera The Love for Three Oranges, staged by Director Alexander Petrov and Set and Costume Designer Vyacheslav Okunev, will be presented in Vladivostok for the first time. A brilliant, ironic comedy for the whole family, it is a subtle metaphor for the love for theatre and the carnival side of the world. The audience will be treated to a vigorous and playful fairy-tale performance with vivid scenery and costumes. On the night of the premiere performance, Valery Gergiev will take the baton to conduct the Mariinsky Orchestra.
