Tenor Mikhail Agafonov will appear for the first time at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

Tenor Mikhail Agafonov, a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and a prizewinner at the International Competition for Vocalists, will debut at the Primorsky Stage.

On January 21 he will sing the part of Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca. His companions on the stage will be Liliya Kadnikova as Tosca and Alexei Bublik as Scarpia.

On January 23 he will sing the title part in Verdi’s Don Carlo. Besides Mikhail Agafonov, the heroes and heroines of the medieval drama of the Spanish King will be Alena Diyanova as Elizabeth, Vyacheslav Vasilyev as Rodrigo, Yevgeny Plekhanov as Philippe II and Irina Kolodyazhnaya as Eboli. The orchestra will be directed by Pavel Smelkov, a Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage.

Mikhail Agafonov started his vocal career at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. One year later he was nominated for the theater prize “Golden Mask”. In 2001 he became a soloist of the Manheim National Theatre and often toured abroad, appearing on the most famous opera stages in Europe, Asia and America including the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris National Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Canadian Opera, and others.

From 2016 Mikhail Agafonov has been a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Presently he is also a guest soloist at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.
