The traditional winter tour of the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage starts in Saint Petersburg

From January 13 to January 23, 2022 the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will perform three wonderful fairy ballets in Saint Petersburg.

The traditional winter tour of the Vladivostok Ballet Company begins with The Sleeping Beauty at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre; this ballet-féerie is an enchanting performance created by the genius of such two great masters as Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa. At the Historical Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre the audience will enjoy Le Corsaire choreographed by Eldar Aliev with traditional interpolations handed down from Marius Petipa’s productions. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be under the baton of Anton Torbeev, conductor of the Primorsky Stage.

A Thousand and One Nights will be performed at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre four times. This ballet choreographed by Eldar Aliev, Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage, Honored Artistic Creator of Russia, was included in the program of the company’s previous tour in Saint Petersburg and received rave reviews. Critics and spectators were of opinion that the ballet proved to be a true gift to ballet lovers. Now the tour performances are timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the composer Fikret Amirov’s birth. At the performances the baton will be held by Ayyub Guliyev, Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The performances are to feature soloists of the Mariinsky Ballet and the Mariinsky Ballet of the Primorsky Stage such as Anna Samostrelova, Yekaterina Chebykina, Renata Shakirova, Lilia Berezhnova, Katerina Floria, Saki Nishida, Arina Nagase, Sergei Umanetc, Viktor Mulygin, Alexei Golubov, Guilherme Junio, Nikita Korneyev, Erlan Suyunbek, and Victor Caixeta.

“For our traditional tour in Saint Petersburg we strive to bring performances choreographed at our Theatre. During this tour we will present three such performances. Despite the fact that some ballet titles are on the playbill of the Main Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, our productions are markedly different from them. The Primorsky Stage company gains maturity, and our further plans envisage both classical and modern productions,” said the Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, Eldar Aliev.
