Sergei Dogadin, a Prize-winner at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition, Appears at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

On May 15, 2021 at 19:00 Sergei Dogadin, a rising star of Russian violin school, will perform in a symphonic concert at the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The concert program includes masterpieces by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Dmitry Shostakovich. The baton is to be held by Pavel Smelkov.

This is the violinist Sergei Dogadin’s third visit to Vladivostok. For the first time he appeared at the Primorsky Stage in March 2016 after his winning the Second Prize (no First Prize was awarded) at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition. Three years later the violinist got his revenge when he won the First Prize and Gold Medal at this prestigious Competition. In September 2019 Sergei Dogadin reappeared at the Primorsky Stage in a Gala Concert of prizewinners of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. “His effective artistry is supported by his stable virtuosity. Dogadin knows the way how to sweep the audience away or hold the audience’s attention,” the reviewer of “Music Life” noted.

On May 15, 2021 the violinist will appear as a soloist in Dmitry Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 which is often compared with the composer’s symphonies for its tonetic seriousness or philosophic expression. The exceptionally challenging violin part demands that the performer should have his musicianship perfect and sometimes put his physical efforts.

The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under Pavel Smelkov’s baton will perform the famous Symphony No. 4 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in Part II of the concert.
