Tenor Mikhail Vekua appears at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

The Primorsky Stage audience will be able to hear Mikhail Vekua, a dramatic solo tenor of the Mariinsky Theatre, Saint Petersburg, in the major roles in three performances in December.

On December 19, 2021 Mikhail Vekua will appear as Radamès, the most virtuoso tenor part in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida. His companions on the stage will be leading singers of the Primorsky Stage. Elena Razgulyaeva, Honored Artist of Russia, will sing the part of the self-sacrificing Aida, and Vyacheslav Vasilyev will appear as the fanatical Amonasro. Tatiana Makarchuk will represent the passionate Amneris. Bass Sergei Sevastyanov will make his debut as Ramfis. The role of the majestic Pharaoh will be performed by Anatoly Badayev. The baton is to be held by Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage.

On December 24 and December 25, 2021 Mikhail Vekua will represent his interpretation of another legendary part, Canio, in premiere performances of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. The opera is staged and scenically designed by Marat Gatsalov, a winner of the Golden Mask theatre prize. The costumes are designed by Elena Turchaninova. The baton will be held by Pavel Smelkov.

Far East spectators have long been acquainted with Mikhail Vekua’s brilliant operatic voice. The singer has often appeared at the International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok. His repertoire at the Primorsky Stage includes the titanic roles of Tristan, Parsifal and Loge in Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal and Das Rheingold respectively and the role of Herman in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades.
