Maestro Shizuo Z Kuwahara reappears at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

The long-awaited return of the principal guest conductor Shizuo Z Kuwahara, Japan, to the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will occur one of these days.

On December 16, 2021 the maestro will conduct the Orchestra performing 20th century music at a symphony concert. The concert program includes Rodion Shchedrin’s The Solemn Overture, Maurice Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye and Dmitry Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10. “The program was originally planned for May 2020, but because the worldwide pandemic, it was postponed until now. My last visit to Vladivostok was in February, and I am so happy to be back after almost 2 years of being away,” said Shizuo Z Kuwahara.

It is remarkable that Shostakovich’s large-scale symphonic score will be represented by the maestro’s new edition with his interpretations.

“In early 2020, the world has changed with spread of Covid-19. Many artists, including myself had to cancel concerts and events. During this sudden stop of activities, I decided to undertake a large  project  –  I  decided  to  edit  many  symphonic  works,  including  the  Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony. At the concert on December 16, 2021, we will perform the new edition of his work, which includes many note corrections from the misprint in the prior publications, and orchestrations as composer intended with my interpretations. I hope you will enjoy hearing this fresh look of his 10th Symphony,” the conductor noted.

On December 17 and December 18, 2021 Shizuo Z Kuwahara will held the baton at the performances of Maurice Ravel’s one-act ballet Daphnis et Chloé staged by Dmitry Pimonov.
