Maxim Aksenov

“The assistant (of the conductor) and, at the same time, the provocateur of the insane unfolding of the elements was Maxim Aksenov, the performer of the role of Herman. It would appear that the young soloist was throwing down a challenge to fate. The degree of his daring and his dramatic fervour may only be compared with the volcanic acting abilities and singing of the Mariinsky Theatre’s greatest Herman — Vladimir Galuzin. The extent of the young soloist’s freedom in terms of the drama was so great that he completely subordinated the orchestra and the conductor to his own self.”
