One of India's leading directors Rajat Kapoor will present a one-man show based on Shakespeare's King Lear in Vladivostok. King Lear performed by Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak is the only character in the play. The actor keeps the audience in suspense for almost two hours – starting as a stand-up show, the story gradually transforms into tragedy.
The production of this contemporary Indian theater company offers the audience a look at the classics from a completely different point. Rajat Kapoor is known in his homeland for his ability to see comedy even in the most tragic stories. In his characteristic manner, he reinterprets this play by Shakespeare too – the hero appears before the audience in the guise of a clown. According to the director, jesters are characterized by sincerity, which is very liberating.
In 2023, Kapoor’s production “Macbeth: what’s done is done” was presented with great success at the Chekhov International Theater Festival in Moscow.
