About the performers

The Liaoning Ballet Company was founded in 1980 and now is one of the most celebrated ballet companies in China.

The Liaoning Ballet adheres to the classical ballet traditions, while being committed to creating a solid Chinese ballet repertoire and preserving traditions of the national performing art.

During the time of its existence, the Liaoning Ballet Company has successfully staged such internationally renowned ballets as Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, Napoli, La Sylphide and together with Yuri Grigorovich worked on the production of Spartacus and Romeo and Juliet. The Company’s distinct national flavour is revealed in its original ballets, including Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai (based on a folk legend), The Peacock's Bile, Gada Meilin (themed on a folk song), The Moon Mirrored in Two Springs, Lullaby of the Liaohe River, in the modern ballet The Last Emperor and the modern ballet classic — Eight Heroines.

The Liaoning Ballet School was established in 1994 on the basis of The Institute of Ballet with over 6 hundred students. Currently, the School is the major domestic ballet training centre, which has educated several generations of talented artists, who have gained recognition both in China and abroad. The Liaoning Ballet School graduates successfully perform in Asia, Europe and America, and comprise 95% of the Liaoning Ballet troupe.

The Liaoning Ballet and its School of Ballet seek extensive artistic and educational collaboration with other ballet companies and professionals from around the world. The troupe has toured in Italy, Australia, France, Japan, Russia, Canada, Cuba and other countries. In its turn, the Company has invited top dancers and experts from the USA, Italy, France, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, Cuba, Russia, Holland, Denmark and other countries for group classes, joint rehearsals and performances. The company has strengthened international cultural exchange by visiting dozens of countries and regions and popularizing the Liaoning Ballet both inside China and abroad.
