This summer the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is on tour in St Petersburg

From July 30 to August 14, 2022, the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is traditionally touring in Saint Petersburg.

The Vladivostok Ballet Company summer tour begins with A Thousand and One Nights on the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. Choreographed by Eldar Aliev, Honored Artistic Creator of Russia, Ballet Artistic Director of the Primorsky Stage, the ballet will be conducted by Ayyub Guliyev, Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Principal Conductor and Musical Director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. The ballet music has been written by the outstanding Azerbaijani composer Fikret Amirov, whose centenary falls this year.

The tour will continue with The Sleeping Beauty, a fairy ballet created by two great masters of genius: Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Marius Petipa. It will be performed on the Historic Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on August 2, August 3 and August 7, 2022. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be under the baton of Anton Torbeev, a conductor of the Primorsky Stage.

On August 4, 2022, the Primorsky Stage Ballet will invite the Petersburg audience to attend the one-act ballet evening and enjoy Phaedra choreographed by Flemming Flindt, a Danish master of ballet, and The Firebird choreographed by Eldar Aliev. The one-act ballet Phaedra, first presented in Russia at the Primorsky Stage of Mariinsky Theatre in November 2021, was highly acclaimed. The ballet music has been written by Philip Glass, one of the most recognized American composers. This rarely performed ballet was included in the repertoire of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on the initiative of the Ballet Artistic Director Eldar Aliev. The libretto of Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird has brought together motifs of well-known Russian fairy tales, and Eldar Aliev as its Production Choreographer has successfully translated these motifs into the dance language. In his interpretation, the Firebird acquires features of fantastic heroines of Russian operas, most closely echoing the image of Tsarevna Swan-Bird from Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of Tsar Saltan. The ballets will be conducted by Vladislav Karklin and Anton Torbeev respectively.

On August 5, August 6, August 11 and August 12, 2022, the Petersburg public will enjoy Le Corsaire choreographed by Eldar Aliev to the music by Adolphe Adam. The audience appreciates this production for its staginess, colorfulness, musicality, movement in development of the plotline, and wonderful harmony of music and dance. Pirates, shipwrecks and an Orient harem – all this is reined over by love which overcomes the most enormous obstacles. The Orchestra will be conducted by Anton Torbeev.

On August 9, August 10 and August 14, 2022, one of the most magic and fairy ballets will be presented for the first time to the Petersburg public: Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker originally choreographed by Eldar Aliev. In any season, this production gives a sense of beauty and happiness. The marvelous story of the handsome Prince transformed into an ugly nutcracker by witchery, and of the kind girl Masha, who helps the Nutcracker to conquer the Mouse King, is always attractive to children and adults. The baton will be held by Anton Torbeev.

The ballets will be performed by soloists and members of the both Primorsky and Mariinsky Ballet Companies, leading soloists of the Ballet Company of the Sofia Opera and Ballet such as Marta Petkova and Tsetso Ivanov, and students of the Boris Eifman Dance Academy.

On August 14, 2022, the 239th season of the Mariinsky Theatre will be closed with two performances of the Primorsky Stage’s production of The Nutcracker.
