The anniversary performance of The Nutcracker ballet-féerie was a success at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre during the Christmas season

On January 6, 2021 the 200th performance of The Nutcracker, the most fairy ballet set to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, took place at the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage was under the baton of Vitaly Shevelev. The primary parts were performed by principals and dancers of the Primorsky Ballet Company such as Irina Sapozhnikova, Kanat Nadyrbek, Denis Golov, and Alena Grivnina.

The Nutcracker was premiered at the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vladivostok on December 19, 2014, and the first 40 performances of this ballet took place at the same theatre. When the theatre was reconstructed to become the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, The Nutcraker remained the greatest New Year favourite of the audience.

The ballet set to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the libretto by Eldar Aliev, a Ballet Master in Chief of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, irrespective of the season, creates an atmosphere of a magic holiday and fairytale-like changes. Of all Tchaikovsky’s ballets The Nutcracker has probably had the largest number of interpretations. The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre presents it in the expressive Eldar Aliev’s choreography based on the original scenario by Marius Petipa.
