Legendary French pianist Lucas Debargue will perform in Vladivostok for the first time shortly before the opening of the Mariinsky Festival

On July 23 19:00, in the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, shortly before the International Mariinsky Far East Festival, French pianist Lucas Debargue will perform the only concert. The musician discovered by the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition will present a solo program of works by Russian and European composers. This will be the first visit of the internationally recognized pianist to Vladivostok.

Lucas Debargue became a real sensation of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition. “Since the appearance of Glenn Gould in Moscow and Van Cliburn’s victory in the Tchaikovsky Competition in the midst of the Cold War, no foreign pianist has caused such a stir”, the columnist of The Huffington Post noted. His performances sparked furor due to original interpretation of classical works, amazing sincerity and “fiery” virtuosity of performance, and Debargue woke up famous.

After the dazzling triumph at the Tchaikovsky competition, the pianist’s career develops with amazing swiftness. Today he tours around the world, composes music and records discs on the Sony Classical label. In 2017, the Lucas Debargue: To Music documentary (directed by Martin Mirabel, Bel Air Media) was released. The musician performs with resounding success in Russia, and not only on the metropolitan stages: his concerts were held in Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Surgut, Samara, Khanty-Mansiysk and other cities.

Debargue’s engagements for the season 2018/19 include concerts at the Vienna Concerthaus, Dresden Palace of Culture, Theatre of the Champs Élysées in Paris, Moscow State Philharmonic Hall, Great Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory, London Wigmore Hall, Santori Hall in Tokyo, as well as at the International Piano the La Roque d’Anterone Festival and the Lavaux Classic Festival in Cully (Switzerland). In a solo concert on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, Lucas Debargue will perform sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, Nikolai Medtner and Franz Liszt.
