The Premiere of The Tsar’s Bride at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be Timed to the Opening of the Eastern Economic Forum

The events of the cultural program of the Eastern Economic Forum will be presented at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. One of the biggest events in the economic and political life of the Asia-Pacific region will be held in Vladivostok from 11 to 13 September. Residents and guests of the city are looking forward to the premiere of The Tsar’s Bride opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the performance of the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet, The Sleeping Beauty ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and gala concerts featuring Asian soloists.

On September 10, the day before the opening of the forum, the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under the guidance of renowned violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet. The orchestra was formed on the basis of a large-scale all-Russian competition of classical music performers; qualifying rounds were held in all federal constituents of the Russian Federation, including the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok. Young violinists from the Primorsky Region, Angelina Lobko and Maria Merenyuk, will take part in the concert on September 10. They will perform solo parts in the Concerto for Two Violins by Antonio Vivaldi.

The central event of the forum’s cultural program will be the premiere of The Tsar’s Bride opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, which will be held on the opening day of the Eastern Economic Forum on September 11. This will be the first large-scale show prepared especially for the Primorsky Stage. The opera was directed Vyacheslav Starodubtsev. The grandiose stagecraft and costumes of the head designer of the Primorsky Stage Peter Okunev will be complemented by the use of modern video content created by one of the leading Russian specialists, Vadim Dulenko. The custom-made choreography will be also there; Sergey Zakharin is working on it.

On September 12 (07:00 p.m.) the cultural program of the forum will be continued in the Great Hall of the theatre The Sleeping Beauty ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (choreography by Marius Petipa as revised by Konstantin Sergeyev and Eldar Aliyev). The performance will be part of a large-scale celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding choreographer Marius Petipa. The Chamber Hall will host a concert named “The Melodies of Autumn 2018” featuring Japanese soloists (08:00 p.m.). Violinist Matsumoto Ran, vocalist Miyamoto Miki and pianist Moriya Junko will present a rich and varied program that will include both classical and modern music. The event will be held as part of the Year of Japan in Russia.

The cultural program of the forum will end on the Primorsky Stage on September 13 with a gala concert featuring famous instrumentalists. The program will be opened by the performance of the laureate of the Eurovision contest for young musicians, Ziyu He (China). He will be performing a solo part in the Concerto No.1 for Violin and Orchestra by Max Bruch. Kim Tae Hyung (South Korea) will perform Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Robert Schumann, and Canon Matsuda (Japan) will perform Concerto No.1 for Piano and Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich. Ivan Bessonov who has recently won a triumphant victory in Eurovision contest for young musicians will be closing the night, performing Concerto No.1 (Parts 2 and 3) for Piano and Orchestra by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. It was Part 3 of the masterpiece that brought Bessonov victory in the contest. All performances will be accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Pavel Smelkov.
