Premieres at the III International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok

The III Mariinsky Festival in Vladivostok will present the audience of the Primorsky Mariinsky Theatre with seven Far-Eastern premieres.

The festival will start with the premiere show of Ludwig Minkus’s ballet Don Quixote with choreography by Alexander Gorsky themed on the performance of Marius Petipa. The ballet will be shown on July 24 and 25. On the first night, the main parts will be performed by Kimin Kim, Renata Shakirova, Ekaterina Kondaurova, Tatyana Tkachenko, Konstantin Zverev, and on the second, by Timur Askerov, Nadezhda Batoyeva, Kristina Shapran, Tatyana Tkachenko, Roman Belyakov. Anton Torbeev will take the conductor’s panel. The Far Eastern premieres will be continued by The Seasons ballet by Ilya Zhivoy featuring Ekaterina Kondaurova and Roman Belyakov (July 26, 7:00 p.m.), Kristina Shapran and Konstantin Zverev (July 27, 5:00 p.m.).

The closing ballet premiere of the festival will be Cinderella by Sergei Prokofiev with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky. Kimin Kim, Renata Shakirova, Ekaterina Kondaurova (July 28, 7:00 p.m.), Kristina Shapran, Tatyana Tkachenko, Konstantin Zverev (July 29, 2:00 p.m.), Vladimir Shklyarov, Nadezhda Batoyeva, Ekaterina Kondaurova (July 29, 7:00 p.m.) will take part in the premiere performances. The Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater will be conducted by Anton Torbeev.

The opera playbill of the Festival will be opened by the premiere of the Don Quixote opera by Jules Massenet (July 31, 7:00 p.m.). The play will be also shown on August 6. On both days, the parts will be performed by Yulia Matochkina (Dulcinea), Yuri Vorobyov (Don Quixote), Andrei Serov (Sancho Panza), Lyudmila Dudinova (Pedro), Evelina Agabalayeva (Garcia), Andrey Ilyushnikov (Rodriguez), Dmitry Koleushko (Juan). Christian Knapp will conduct the orchestra.

On August 1, concert performance of the first act of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Thus Do They All will take place. The parts will be performed by the Atkins scholarship holders Ekaterina Sannikova (Fiordiligi), Vladislav Kupriyanov (Guglielmo), Yevgeny Akhmedov (Fernando), Dmitry Grigoriev (Don Alfonso) and Evelina Agabalaeva and Oksana Shilova. Arina Vaganova will play the harpsichord solo, and Christian Knapp will take the conductor’ stand. On August 4, at 8:00 p.m., the Seaside Stage will see the premiere of Richard Strauss’ Salome (concert performance). The main parts will be sung by Elena Stikhina (Salome), Andrei Popov (Herod), Olga Savova (Herodias) and Evgeny Nikitin (Iokanaan). Valery Gergiev will conduct the orchestra.

The cycle of opera performances will be continued by the Far Eastern premiere of Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde staged by Dmitry Chernyakov (August 5, 5:00 p.m.). The parts will be performed by Mikhail Vekua (Tristan), Mikhail Petrenko (King Mark), Elena Popovskaya (Isolde), Evgeny Nikitin (Kurvenal), Yulia Matochkina (Brangena). Valery Gergiev will be at the conductor’s console of the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra.
