The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre won the International BraVo Award

Last night, on 11 March, the Historic Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre hosted the first ceremony to present International Professional Music BraVo Awards in the field of classical art. The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre became the winner in the category “Best Concert/Theatre Venue”. The Award was presented to Branch Director Anna Kasatkina by Russia’s Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky.

“Today, the Mariinsky Theatre is the largest theatre complex of classical musical art in the world. It is not only the Historic Mariinsky, it is an excellent concert hall also located in St Petersburg, it is the Mariinsky in Vladikavkaz, and, of course, one of the most modern concert venues in the world — the Mariinsky in Vladivostok,” said the minister.

The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre was founded on 1 January, 2016. Over the two years of its existence, the theatre has hosted performances by more than 500 outstanding musicians, opera singers and ballet dancers from all over the globe. The Theatre’s repertoire performances and concerts has featured a great number of internationally acclaimed artists, including the Mariinsky Orchestra, chorus, opera and ballet soloists, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Galuzin, Maria Guleghina, Diana Vishneva, Ulyana Lopatkina, Vladimir Shklyarov, Albina Shagimuratova, Denis Matsuev, Yuri Bashmet, the “Korean Phenomenon” Seong Jin Cho, Leonidas Kavakos, Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici and many other outstanding musicians. Today, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is one of the most actively developing performing arts complexes in the world.

The International Professional Music BraVo Awards are given to classical and popular music nominees in 24 categories. In 2018, the award winners include the Mariinsky soloist Ildar Abdrazakov, such outstanding performers as Anna Netrebko, Hibla Gerzmava, Svetlana Zakharova, Daniil Trifonov. Dmitri Hvorostovsky was posthumously awarded the First International Professional BraVo Music Prize in the category "Classic Album of the Year" for his last recording - Verdi's opera Rigoletto.

The solemn award ceremony at the Bolshoi was attended by a number of international guests, including heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of India, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, CIS-member states, and was held with the support of such outstanding international culture icons as Jose Carreras, Vladimir Spivakov, Denis Matsuev and others.
