World operatic masterpieces at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in November

In November, the Primorsky Stage audiences will be presented with an opportunity to see masterpieces of Italian and Russian repertoire.

On 9 November, one of the most famous Giuseppe Verdi’s operas Rigoletto will feature coloratura soprano Aigul Khismatullina, a singer with a rare voice, multiple awards winner and a fellow of the Atkins Young Artists Program. She will sing the part of Gilda, the interpretation of which has become one of the most successful in her career. Another Giuseppe Verdi’s opera - Macbeth, staged by internationally renowned theatre director Ian Judge, will be presented on November 11, when the Primorsky Stage artists will be joined by the Mariinsky soloist, bass Vitaly Yankovsky. In both performances the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov.

Vitaly Yankovsky will continue his Vladivostok performances in one of the most character roles in Sergei Prokofiev’s comic opera — The Love for Three Oranges (November 16) — the part of the King.

On 18 November, opera lovers will hear a powerful production of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca. This time, the conductor’s podium will be for the first time occupied by Anton Shaburov. Since August 2017, the young musician, a winner of grand-prix and 1st prize at international competitions, who has already earned recognition both in Russia and abroad, has been artistic director and principal conductor of the Far East Academic Symphony Orchestra (Khabarovsk).

The November operatic playbill will close with Christmas Eve by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (November 23, 24). The production has taken advantage of almost all theatrical opportunities: a snowstorm, stars playing blind man’s buff, a fantastic fight create a feeling of presence and make the audience a participant in the events happening on stage. This is a performance for all the family — one of those that inspire a real love for opera.
