Elena Stikhina nominated for the prestigious theatre Golden Sofit award

The Primorsky Stage and the Mariinsky Theatre soloist, soprano Elena Stikhina has been nominated for St Petersburg’s highest theatre award - The Golden Sofit in the category “The Best female role in an operatic performance” for her delivery of the part of Salome in Richard Strauss’ opera of the same name.

The 2016/17 became one of the most successful seasons in Elena Stikhina’s career. In addition to her performances at the Theatre Basel and the Finnish National Opera, in February 2017, the singer made her Mariinsky Theatre debut in the title part in the premiere of Marat Gatsalov’s production of Salome. The opera received a rapturous receipt from both the audience and critics: Stikhina was called “the phenomenon of this premiere”, “the discovery and the main hit of the performance.” The singer clinched her success by performing leading parts in the operas The Queen of Spades and La forza del destino, and officially joined the Opera Company of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Also, Elena Stikhina has made several debuts in important soprano parts at the Primorsky Stage in Vladivostok: she performed the role of Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s opera, sang Donna Elvira in a concert performance of Don Giovanni and Senta in Der fliegende Hollander. On September 16, the singer appeared for the first time on St Petersburg’s stage in her signature role of Floria Tosca in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Tosca. Her nearest future engagements include debuts at the Boston Lyric Opera (Tosca), Deutsche Oper Berlin and Opera de Paris (Leonora in Il trovatore).
